Transportation

San Rafael lies just North of the Golden Gate Bridge in glorious Marin County.
It is situated approximately 30 miles (about 45 minutes driving time) from both the San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) airports, both of which are served by many airlines, including Southwest.

If you are planning on renting a vehicle while you are in town, flying into Oakland is a bit simpler (and you won't have to drive through San Francisco). However, if you are not planning on renting a car, then flying into SFO will make your travels across the Golden Gate Bridge much easier.

The Marin Airporter provides transportation from SFO to San Rafael every half hour. Fares are $20 per adult ($10 per child).

If you are flying into OAK and attempting to get to Marin without a car, then you should plan your flights to coincide with the Sonoma Airport Express, a bus service that runs every two hours from OAK to San Rafael starting at 5:15 a.m. Fares are $24 per adult (children ride free).
